Hoop sizes A and B explained.

What Does 5X7A & 5X7B Mean?

If you’ve ever opened one of our design folders and wondered:

“What in the world is 5X7A and 5X7B?”

It’s simply two layout options for the same hoop size.

Let’s break it down.

Same Hoop Size. Two Layout Options.

Both 5X7A and 5X7B fit a 5X7 hoop.
They are the same design.

The only difference?

The design is flipped in the hoop.

That flip allows us to:

  • Maximize your stitch area

  • Give you more placement flexibility

  • Help you choose the version that works best for your project

Why Do We Include Both?

When we digitize designs, we want you to get the most out of your hoop space.

Sometimes flipping the design:

  • Allows it to stitch slightly larger

  • Makes placement easier on certain blanks

  • Works better depending on how your machine handles stitch fields

Instead of making you decide ahead of time, we include both versions so you have options.

Which One Should You Use?

The best way to decide is to:

  1. Open both files in your embroidery software

  2. Preview the stitch layout

  3. Choose the one that fits your blank best

Most stitchers quickly discover they tend to prefer one layout over the other depending on what they’re working on.

There is no wrong choice. Just the one that works best for your project.

We also include A and B options for the 6X10 and 8X12 options.  We just used 5X7 for this example.  Some of our older designs do not include these options as we only started adding this in the last year. (2025)

And if you ever have questions, we’re always here to help.

Happy stitching,
Emily 🧵💙
